The selection of Bulgarian musicians for the showcase program of the Seventh European Jazz Conference begins. The deadline to apply for the presentation concerts in front of some of the most key figures in this musical field is March 10.
This is an exceptional opportunity for Bulgarian musicians within the conference, which this fall will welcome in Sofia over 400 key actors in the field: organizers, program directors, managers and producers of international festivals, cultural operators from Europe and the world. Among the iconic events that will have their representatives at the one-of-a-kind jazz forum are North Sea Jazz, EFG London Jazz Festival, ELBJazz, as well as iconic jazz clubs such as Ronnie Scott, Porgy & Bess and many more. etc.
For the first time in our country, within the European Jazz Conference, a showcase program will be held, which will cover a total of 6 concerts. The events will be of a presentation nature and are of key importance for the presentation of the Bulgarian music and jazz scene to a professional audience, which will be joined by journalists, music agents and performers. This opens up an incredible opportunity for Bulgarian talents to expand their field of expression and future commitments internationally.
Candidates will be selected by the program committee of the conference, composed of members of the European Jazz Network. The six selected projects will present their performances within 30 minutes in two of the days of the forum – September 11 and 12, 2020. The selected participants will be included in the overall international promotion of the event, and one of the conditions for participation is to be ready to go on tour.
The European Jazz Conference is organized by the European Jazz Network and is held every year in a different city in Europe, and Sofia deservedly won the competition for hosting this year’s edition, which will be held from 10 to 13 September 2020.
Co-organizers from the Bulgarian side are A to Z Foundation, which is behind the largest jazz festival in Bulgaria – A to JazZ, Sofia Municipality and the National Palace of Culture, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria. The conference will expand future partnerships and creative projects between domestic and European festivals and artists and will strengthen the place of Bulgaria as a cultural center with a contribution to the development of music and jazz.
“Holding the European Jazz Conference and Showcase Program is a great chance for all of us, because it will focus entirely on our music scene, artists and their music. Our main goal is for more Bulgarian projects to be part of the big European jazz poster, ”say the organizers.
