The exceptional Russian violinist and Grammy winner Maxim Vengerov and maestro Naiden Todorov will present music by Dmitry Shostakovich in the program of the European Music Festival 2021. The concert with our national orchestra is on February 11 at 19:00 in Bulgaria Hall And the tickets for it ran out weeks ago. The program includes a Violin Concerto №1 and a Chamber Symphony in C minor by the great Russian composer.

For virtuoso Maxim Vengerov Shostakovich’s first concerto is one of the greatest violin and orchestra concertos of all time. He described it as “a tough marathon, a musical challenge and incredibly appealing to the audience.” The violinist was lucky enough to study it with one of Shostakovich’s students – maestro Mstislav Rostropovich and recorded the composition at the age of 18.

When composing the work, Shostakovich did not think at all that the soloist would be out of breath at the end of the cadence and wrote a very demanding finale. Thanks to David Oistrakh, who asked Shostakovich to score 8 more bars between the cadences and the final, the singer has 15 seconds to stop for a moment and gather strength for the final. ” Vengerov shared in a special interview with journalist Svetoslav Nikolov from bTVRadioGroup.

The concert on February 11 is Maxim Vengerov’s third visit to Bulgaria and first in an acoustic hall. The star enthusiastically remembers his previous performances in Bulgaria at the European Music Festival in 2006 and 2018. “I love playing with maestro Naiden Todorov! A wonderful conductor, an exceptional musician and a great person! After the concert we talked for a long time with the maestro about music and life. He told me about the great Bulgarian composer Vladigerov. He inspired me to learn his violin concerto. I really want to do it one day! ”, Shares Vengerov.

Tickets for the dress rehearsal can be purchased at the box office of Bulgaria Hall or in Eventim.
