“Luzzu” is Alex Camilleri’s debut feature film, American director of Maltese descent, working closely with American producer, screenwriter and director Ramin Bahrani.

He is the producer of Lutsu, in which the main roles are entrusted to non-professional actors.

The film is named after the wooden boat owned by the Maltese fisherman Yesmark, who is struggling to support his family. To provide food and treatment for his newborn son, Yesmark is forced to operate on the black market.

The director spent years with the fishermen, who were his friends, and later became actors. This film is a piece of reality, recreated with artistic means, striking with its touching naturalness. “Lutsu” successfully participated in the competition in “Sundance” 21 and was awarded a special prize by the jury for the acting of the lead actor Yesmark Shikluna.
